I went to the Morpho Gallery on Foster and Damen, which was a very small, local gallery. Although small, I liked the space and how everything was arranged. The whole space was small, but not cramped, although it would seem if there were too many people there at once there wouldn't be too much wiggle room. A friend recommended me to go because the photography there had positive feed back. When I got there, the Lady there (I forgot to catch her name) gave me a pamphlet with all the authors names and works of art that were up currently. I was looking forward to prints, but photography was OK too. The artists that were being exhibited were Susan Annable, Alexandra Chehy, Kim Holz, and David Swanson. I didnt expect to know the artists showing since the space was so small and they seemed to be very focused on promoting locally. The Artwork was not shown on top of each other, given the small space, but hung traditionally side by side with almost a similar length in between each one. Even though the photos were hung like in a museum there wasnt a feeling of isolation or percision, it was more welcoming than that. Probably due to the mysterious humble lady. As far as clarification was concerned, it was pretty much straight forward. on the lower right of each frame, there was a tag, with a bold artist name, italic title, and dimensions and medium on the bottom in small print. When I asked for the prices, that's when they handed me pamphlet with the artist's information and on the back, all the prices. The gallery was located on the edge of an artsy type community, which explains another small gallery next to Morpho's. The small place doesn't allow for too much change for specific artwork that might need it, so there probably is a consideration of only hung prints, photos, paintings, etc. on a white wall. Over all, the gallery was very welcoming, home feeling, and comfortable. I plan to go back in January for a new group of selected artists. Even know I didn't really know who she was, I talked with the lady and she said she'd talk to the owner about giving me a discount on a weekend rental of the place for my and my friend's artwork. I don't know how that'd end up working out though.
