John Cage

John cage is an american experimental composer, who works with the idea of silence in his work. I am not sure how he is viewed in the art world as a conceptual artist, but he really interests me. I consider him an artist because contemporary art itself has broken the barriers of traditional processes, and has gone into a much more experimental process and john cage is just viewing the conceptual realm of art from a different view point of art itself; music, or rather sound. His piece that was his claim to fame, was his three movement compostion 4 33, where he had a full symphony orchestra sit in silence for exactly four minutes and thirty three seconds, leaving the audience in complete confusion. This piece has stirred up a lot of controversy, in that some view it as a disgrace to music and some view it as a genuis holding its " listeners" in pure anticipation.
